Altamesa 300 Trail Running Shoes deliver plush cushioning and stability for all-terrain miles

What Our Gearhead® Experts Are Saying:

"I’ve put serious miles on the Altamesa 300—from buffed-out singletrack to rocky fire roads—and they’ve crushed it every time. The cushioning is dialed, the fit is roomy but secure, and the Surface CTRL outsole gives just enough grip without being bulky."

When we’re chasing trail miles day after day, we reach for the Altamesa 300 Trail Running Shoe. Designed to perform on everything from fast 5Ks to all-day efforts, this everyday trail runner from The North Face balances plush comfort, breathability, and dependable grip.

The Altamesa 300 features a lightweight, engineered mesh upper made with 53% recycled material for breathable support. The Comfort-Tuned last gives a roomier forefoot fit without sacrificing midfoot security, while a padded collar and reinforced heel counter ensure long-distance comfort and stability. A mid-stack EVA midsole absorbs impact while keeping transitions smooth, and the Surface CTRL™ rubber outsole delivers confidence-inspiring grip. Finished with a protective SKYCOR rock guard and a gusseted tongue to keep debris out, it’s ready to explore trail systems near and far.

Great hiking shoes and for everyday use

I've been wearing my new The North Face Altamesa 300 for a few weeks now, and the experience has been excellent. The fit is comfortable right out of the box, with cushioning that feels firm yet lightweight-perfect for long walks or everyday wear. The outsole offers impressive grip even on wet surfaces, which gives a real sense of security. Plus, the design is modern and versatile, pairing well with both casual and sporty outfits. They've also performed great in humid conditions, keeping my feet dry and well-ventilated. Overall, a purchase that's worth every penny if you're looking for quality, comfort, and style all in one pair of sneakers. I've had other products from North face and the shoes have the same high quality standards.

Great shoes for both everyday use or hiking

Great fit to your feet, Size is correct and fits nice and tight. Material as usual great quality. Wear them a couple of time and planning to use them for hiking on the tropical rain forest and 1 trip to a snowy destination.

Most Comfortable shoe I have ever owned!

These shoes are absolutely amazing! They are hands down the most comfortable shoes I have ever owned. Its like you are walking on clouds with every step you take. I got them for everyday wear but they would make an amazing hiking shoe as well!

Disappointing design, poor tread, and super uncomfortable

I've been a north face customer for decades. When i needed a new trail/multi purpose shoes i saw these with incredible reviews. My experience with these trail shoes has been extremely disappointing. On my first wear, i stepped on damp dirt (not mud) and they immediately slipped, brand new out of the box trail shoes slipping had me thinking it was a fluke but this kept happening on multiple surfaces during the walk. Mind you i wasn't even running and the conditions were extremely mild. The second issue is that the sole is designed with a round gap in the bottom. This leads to a ton of suction when walking/running and it is noticeably uncomfortable. Walking on wet asphalt led to extreme suction cupping and me literally sticking to the ground. This also happened when i wore them to the gym!! I've never experienced this with any other shoe and it is a terrible design. Such high ratings makes me think that honest reviews have been scrubbed from the site. Beware

I really Like this Shoe

I have ran trail in this shoe and i also wear it in more formal settings for work. It definitely is so comfortable and the toe box is larger than a Clifton 9! It's a great shoe. North face has converted me. I really hope they don't change the fit and design because I am going to purchase several pairs.

LOVE this shoe!!

After many unsatisfying purchases and many returns, I have found the exact shoe I have been looking for, for use in long distance walking. It is very difficult to find a shoe that has lots of cushion *and* a more minimalist arch support (I have found that Hoka and even Altra just have too much arch support, which is uncomfortable if you have a flatter foot and/or don't want or need arch support). The only thing I didn't like was the un-cushioned tongue, which was pressing a bit too much into my front ankle tendons. I solved this problem by using scissors to cut a small slit in each tongue to relieve that pressure (see photo). Now they are perfect! I will be buying these again.
