Quest 4 GTX Boot delivers rugged support, waterproof protection, and comfort for demanding trails
What Our Gearhead® Experts Are Saying:
"I’ve worn the Quest 4 GTX Boot on multi-day treks, and the combination of ankle support, waterproof GORE-TEX, and the cushioned Ortholite liner kept my feet happy through long, rocky miles. It feels sturdy without being overly heavy, which makes it a reliable pick for serious backpacking."
When we’re loading up for backcountry routes or planning a weeklong trek, the Salomon Quest 4 GTX Boot is our go-to for dependable support. The brand’s proven GORE-TEX membrane keeps our feet dry when weather turns, while the boot’s advanced chassis blends trail-running agility with backpacking stability. That balance means we can power through steep switchbacks and rocky ridgelines with confidence.
Durability is built into every step, with Contragrip rubber that bites into slick rock and rubber toe and heel caps to fend off sharp edges. An Ortholite liner with EVA heel cushioning adds comfort for long days under a heavy pack. Whether we’re crossing wet meadows or scrambling above treeline, this boot keeps us steady, dry, and ready for the next mile.

Great shoe for climbing Rocky Mountains!
I’ve been a loyal fan of the Quest 4D boots for over 12 years. They hold up well even hiking Rocky Mountain trails every day. The only thing I would improve is the tongue design. It would be great if they made it so it didn’t stick out but rather cupped inside the ankle corners nicely. I know the new tongue design is supposed to be that way and it doesn’t change my love for the boot! Best boots ever!

Returning for something lighter
The pair weighs 1kg 10gms combined.. and I'm 50kgs.. I so wanted to love these shoes.. there's a lot going for it - great ankle support, generous toe box.. but I tried walking up 15 flights in these indoors to see if they measure up and by the half way mark, my legs were fatigued. So, returning them for something lighter. If Salomon guys made these in the material and construction of the Ultra 5X -- I'd be so so happy! Please guys... just think about small women who hike.

The toe pain is gone
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
- Size Bought:
- 6.5 wide
Bought this pair for my TMB trip after knowing its features of the extra toe box and protection. Didn’t have any toes issues after 5 days of 10+ mile hiking each day. Although it’s heavier than my other two boots and feels more bulky at the beginning, but got used to it very soon. I also love the higher ankle support.

Quest 4, the quest is over
The boots are super comfortable, like wearing a pair of tennis shoes. Lightweight. Perfect for hiking.

Super comprehensive hiking shoes
Water proof working good, really supportive structure for boots, saving me from several easily get hurt situation when hiking. Good looking as well, very adjustive and strong enough for different levels of trails, highly recommend for who goes to moderate and above trails! I would like to have one for coming generation!

Waterproof but needs to be broken in
I bought this a month ago and have worn it once on a camping trip after heavy rainfall. I'm happy with the goretex because my feet stayed dry the entire trip and the ankle support is really strong. One thing I'm kind of iffy about is I'm not sure if the shoe still needs to be broken in? When I'm walking and I am bending the ball of my foot during the walk, the crease in the front of the shoe will pinch my toes. I'm not sure if this is a sizing problem because I have picked the right size allowing for any swelling, or if it's because the shoe still needs to be broken in. I would suggest walking around in the shoe for a while when trying it on to see if you encounter this problem.

I love these hikers
I've been buying these shoes for years and have tried different other brands, they just don't fit like the Quest 4D. The leather breaks open too fast where the plastic front meets the leather. This pair started coming apart after only 9 months of normal use, not mountain bavk packing. I wear them winter and summer, in Alaska. They are a little hot for summer and not warm enough some of winter up here.

awesome boot
I bought a pair for my son and granddaughter they hike and climb all over the world and love these boots. They offer higher ones for ankle turners and hold up well for years.

Very sturdy, runs big
These are gorgeous boots. I did, however, think that I had mistakenly ordered the men's size when I opened the box because they are HUGE. I double checked the order and they were in fact the women's size, they just run really big. I have another pair of Salomon Outlines in the size that I ordered, so I assumed the sizing would be the same, but it is not. Luckily, I have a son who these fit, so at least they will be used and I can order a smaller size.

My third pair!
The style has changed and now seems to have a narrower footbed so I had to go up a size to get a comfortable width. Still waterproof and very supportive .
