Foray 3L Pants deliver reliable waterproof protection and packable convenience for wet-weather adventures

What Our Gearhead® Experts Are Saying:

"These pants are a lifesaver when the skies open up on trail. I love that the ¾ zips make them easy to pull on without removing boots, and the venting keeps me from overheating on humid days. They’re lightweight but still tough, and they stuff down into their own pocket so I don’t mind carrying them just in case."

From sudden mountain storms to all-day downpours, the Outdoor Research Foray 3L Pant is built to handle the elements without slowing us down. Constructed with recycled AscentShell Dry 3-layer fabric and fully sealed seams, these pants shed rain and block wind while allowing us to move naturally thanks to mechanical stretch and articulated knees. The ¾-length zippers make layering quick and painless, doubling as vents when temps rise, and the elastic waist with drawcord keeps the fit secure. When the skies finally clear, the pants tuck neatly into the rear pocket, ready to ride along for our next adventure.

Really nice rain pants. Pack down fairly small with a carabiner clip to hold ‘em on your bag. Honestly I didn’t notice much of a difference between their weight and my previous REI pants weight. They do seem to be a little bit larger than the size that is advertised. I’ve seen other peoples reviews and they mention the same thing, so though you may be fine with your normal size, I would try a size down. Overall, it’s a great quality product that should keep you dry from rain.

sizing is completely off

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it
Size Bought:
S regular
Height:
5' 9"
Weight:
140

Based on the sizing chart, I should be a S regular. But when it arrived, it looked like I was wearing parachute pants. I likely should be wearing one or two sizes smaller, but for whatever reason, Backcountry doesn't sell OR size XS.

Check sizing before buying

I went of the sizing chart, and the the large regular pants are too long, and the large top is a little too big as well. Try on in a store first if you can.

Same great material as the jacket and those leg zips!

I recently purchased the Foray 3L pants, and I couldn't be more pleased with their performance. The standout feature for me has to be the full-length leg zippers, which make them incredibly easy to put on and take off, even over bulky footwear. This feature also provides excellent ventilation when needed. The material is top-notch, identical to the jacket, which I also own and love. It’s exceptionally effective at repelling water, making it perfect for handling the sudden, intense downpours common in Florida. Despite its waterproof capabilities, the fabric feels comfortable and breathable, ensuring I stay dry without overheating. Overall, the Foray 3L pants are a fantastic investment for anyone who needs reliable, high-quality rain protection. Highly recommended for tackling unpredictable weather with ease!

32 waist, small the better fit

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Size Bought:
Small
Weight:
180

Feather light and durable, rain proof yet vented For hiking and low drag thru brush, small works for me (6' 180 lbs) over uninsulated pants. That matches the profile of the medium jacket If doing ballet on the rocks, medium pants will give more room But for most other activities, it'd be too baggy

Tall is too tall

My issue isn't with the pants which are great, BUT with the sizing chart - I am 6'3" and 36" waist and a large size works for me but I have an 34" inseam and the chart recommendation is to get a tall size however I think regular would have been much better. The pant legs bunch up at the bottom when I have mid waterproof hiking shoes on. The OR pro deal is great but unfortunately they don't allow exchanges or returns. I would liked to have swapped this pair for a large regular.

Great rain pants!

I've had several pairs of rain pants from other manufacturers over the years and these are the best so far. They don't restrict my leg movements, don't leak, and are easy to get on and off. The rise is high, so you have good overlap with your top and the waist drawstring seems sturdy enough, although I pair them with suspenders also. Rain and wet brush are expected if you are outside much of the year here in the PNW, so you need some good rain pants.
