Tree Wool FL Long-Sleeve Shirt keeps us moving in comfort with fast-drying wool performance

What Our Gearhead® Experts Are Saying:

"I throw the Tree Wool FL Long-Sleeve in my pack every time I’m headed out for a shoulder-season hike. It feels super soft thanks to the Tencel, dries way quicker than pure merino, and keeps its shape even after repeated use. The gusseted underarms are a quiet MVP—great mobility without any ride-up."

We count on the Tree Wool FL Long-Sleeve Shirt when the trail calls for breathable comfort and multi-day durability. Built with a thoughtful blend of RWS-certified merino wool and smooth Tencel lyocell, this layer offers fast moisture management, natural odor resistance, and soft next-to-skin comfort—ideal for early starts, summit pushes, or winding down around the fire.

A functional underarm gusset enhances mobility, while the fabric’s enhanced shape retention means it holds up season after season. Whether worn solo on crisp hikes or layered under a fleece during shoulder-season travel, the Tree Wool FL Long-Sleeve is one of those pieces that goes the distance without missing a beat.

Good Wool Base Layer

Winter is the time of year for base layers and I use them when I am doing any outdoor activity. I have tried many and I like the Tree Wool FL Longsleeve pretty well. It keeps me warm and dry, as most do, but didn't give a perfect score because it is a bit scratchy and not as form-fitting as I had expected. I think the Mammut Trift Longsleeve is more comfortable and functional.

Best for Casual Wear or Single Layer

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I wore this shirt to camp, climb, hike, and trail run. Mammut gave me this free product to try. Camping - The relaxed fit of the shirt makes it very comfortable to lounge and sleep in. I didn't find it to smell at all after two nights, but I am not generally a stinky person. Climbing - I wore this on a multi-pitch climb and for a day of bouldering. While wearing my harness, I found that the shirt was somewhat chafing me (or my skin is just very dry because I live in Colorado). I layered the shirt with a fleece, but because of the staticky nature of the fleece and the relaxed fit of the shirt, the wool kept riding up on me in different ways around the waist and sleeves. The following day, I wore it bouldering. It was a particularly sunny day and I didn't feel too hot at all. I had full range of motion in the shirt. I will have to wear it a few more times but the durability has held up so far. Hiking/Trail Running - This shirt is perfect for moderate hiking/running in 55 degree weather. I wore this as a single layer with a pack. Similarly to while wearing the harness, I felt some chafing around the straps of the pack. It is still a generally a comfortable shirt. Other thoughts - I am 5'1 with a negative ape index and found the sleeves to be a good length for me. I could see how someone with longer arms would find the sleeves too short. In the product photos, the shirt seems somewhat see through, but I didn't find that to be an issue for me as long as I wear a dark colored bra. Lastly, I enjoy the minimalist design.

Reliable Long Sleeve Tee for Active Adventures

I was able to test the Tree Wool LS Tee while trail running, hiking, and bouldering on a road trip. The first thing that stood out was that over the course of the road trip, I wore the shirt four different days without washing in between days and there was no normal multi-day funk smell-surely a plus! On each occasion I did not layer the shirt with anything else so my experience was only with wearing it as a single layer. The shirt is comfortable with an athletic fit, but not tight or form-fitting. I like the minimalist design and found it to be comfortable for all activities. While running in it, it felt lightweight and seemed to wick moisture well. Also really appreciated that drop waist in the back-it seemed to work well with a running pack in that the shirt never rode up under the pack, as I've had happen before with other shirts. Thanks to Mammut for giving this to me to test it out!

Wool Base Layer

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is a pretty nice base layer. It is very soft, even after a few washes, and is very breathable. Though it isn’t the warmest layer, because the fabric is decently thin. It is a little bit see through. I wore it two days straight while camping in the smokies and also for a few days while climbing in New River Gorge. Despite wearing it multiple days during physical activity, the shirt never smelled horrible. I’m not going to say it was odorless, but I’ve never had a base layer that didn’t smell horrible after a few hours, so this was really nice. I also do wish the sleeves were a little tighter so they didn’t roll down constantly while I was climbing, but I might just have to size down. Overall this is a pretty solid base layer if it isn’t too cold. Super comfy and doesn’t get too smelly. Mammut gave me this free product to try.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Pretty dang comfortable for a lightweight wool shirt! Mammut’s Tree wool FL Longsleeve covers quite the range of temps as a next-to-skin layer while hiking, biking, and even for office days. Minimal scratchiness and comfortable as a baselayer, excellent torso length, wicks sweat easily and kept me comfortable in all temps, odor resistant, and very cute logo placement on the shoulder! The only reason I marked it down one star is the sleeve length. I’m 5’4”ish and have pretty average length arms I think, but the sleeves are about an inch or two too short! I was surprised at this given how nice and long the torso length is. It’s also a bit of a magnet for dog hair and lint, but I don’t mind that as much because almost all wool is. I work for the Forest Service and used it at work out on the Boise NF in the snow, rain, and general fall weather and it performed great!! I also took it on my roadtrip to Portland and Mt Rainier and it’s perfect for all day comfort - in and out of the car, hiking, camping, and walking around town. Huge thank you to Mammut, they gave me this free product to try.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love this shirt! I received this shirt in the fall, so I used it for indoor rock climbing and as a base layer for biking. Here are some things that I noted when I tested the shirt: 1) It is extremely comfortable! It is light and breathable - feels like next to skin. 2) The breathability of the shirt kept me cool and dry. 3) The odor-neutralization properties of the shirt is better than other odor-neutralizing shirts that I own. WARNING: POTENTIAL TMI - with my other odor-neutralizing shirts, the smell of sweat and deodorant is noticeable (not whoa pee ew, but it's there), but it is hardly noticeable with this shirt. However, this is the first wool odor-neutralizing shirt that I own so maybe wool is the secret sauce for a less smelly me. 4) I'm about 5'2 and 90lbs and I got a XS. The shirt fits well - neither fitted nor loose perhaps due to the breathability and stretchability materials. Its stretch make for easy maneuvering.

Mammut Tree Wool FL Longsleeve Shirt

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Mammut gave me this free Tree Wool long sleeve shirt to try. Overall, I think it is a very comfortable, multipurpose shirt and will get lots of rotation in my hiking and climbing wardrobe. It runs true to size. The fabric is very soft, and has enough stretch. It is incredibly lightweight and breathes well. As it is fall here, it’s provided a good amount of warmth over tanks or under fleeces. I would expect that it would not be too hot in warmer seasons either. I particularly like the subtle logo and drop hem. I did find the sleeves to be a bit short for me, but it works well pushing them up a bit, which I tend to do while hiking and climbing anyway!

Mammut shirt

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Mammut gave me this shirt to try for free. Great shirt. Form fit surprisingly well. Very breathable and lightweight. I use it mainly to climb and I never feel restricted in any way. It doesn’t get too hot because of the wool material and relaxed fit. I’ve honestly worn it for multiple days without washing and it has never smelled bad. I would recommend this shirt. The only thing is price point but that goes for any wool/athletic shirt.

Phenomenal fabric and fit

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I wore this wool top for 3 days while dry camping and riding sxs through the marshes in Northern Utah. Most mornings were 25 degrees and warmed up to mid 40s during the day. The weight of this was spot on with a puffy or jacket in the morning and it stayed on all day! Mammut has the fit, fabric, and function game figured out!
