Alugator Pro Light Shovel
Mammut's Alugator Pro Light Shovel is lightweight and compact, yet extremely strong and reliable for efficient digging in emergency situations. Its strong aluminum blade cuts through firm snow and avalanche deposit with ease, and is designed to be tilt-resistant to remain intact under heavy loads. The cutouts in the blade not only reduce weight, but also double as attachment holes for building snow anchors or a rescue sled. An ergonomically-shaped grip and stabilization ribs on the shaft add durability and strength transfer when you're moving large volumes of snow, and the telescoping shaft easily locks into place for quick assembly in an emergency situation.

Solid, sturdy, light enough.
Not the lightest shovel In the world. But have used it multiple times in field training, and a few more to unstuck the truck on some sloppy trails and roads. Has held up well to the beating, and doesn't seem to mind being dinged on a few rocks or two along the way.

Best Shovel w/ Telescopic handle
Great shovel, one of the lightest models available but still has the extendable handle that makes digging snow so much easier especially for taller people or those with back issues. Fits easily in my pack.

My Favorite Shovel
This shovel is an essential piece of my backcountry kit. It’s impressively lightweight and packs down small, making it easy to carry without adding bulk. Despite its minimal weight, it’s surprisingly durable—even in hard, icy conditions it holds up without flexing or feeling flimsy. Assembly takes just seconds, which is absolutely crucial in a rescue situation where every moment counts. The high-visibility color is another standout feature, making it easy to locate quickly in avalanche terrain. Everything about this shovel feels purpose-built for serious alpine travel. If you’re looking for a dependable, no-nonsense shovel that won’t weigh you down, this is it.

Lightweight, not ideal for very deep snowpacks, but superb for spring tours

Works as advertised
Use this in my ski patrol pack. Works great as an emergency tool, level out area for toboggan or digging your neighbor out when stuck in a snow drift. Well built, lite and like the orange and black color.

One of the best BC shovels
Light, strong and moves a ton of snow. Cuts through firm snow well too. Should be a reliable BC tool for years to come.

Great shovel
I’ve used this in practice and shoveling out my truck. Durable, easily deployed and light. Very handy with it. Larger handle than my old shovel, which fits my grip really well.

Great shovel
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
This is a great shovel. It's a good size, the handle telescopes out to a usable length and it's durable. I used a couple others in avi class and this was my favorite of the few I tried.

Real shovel
This fits inside my Mammut pack and is super solid…despite its light weight.

Good shovel
This is a great shovel because it does shovel things. When I stick it in the snow, it scoops up snow the best way any shovel can scoop. For real though, it's nice and light, compresses smaller and fits almost any bag designed for avvy stuff.
