Ultimate cold-weather comfort in the Mountain Classic Sherpa-Lined Regular Down Coat
What Our Gearhead® Experts Are Saying:
"This coat is built for serious winter conditions. The sherpa lining adds a whole new level of warmth and softness, and the DownTek fill handles snow and slush like a champ. The length keeps more of me covered, and the two-way zipper and side vents make it surprisingly flexible for layering and movement. I wear this on the coldest days and stay toasty without overheating."
When the cold really settles in, we gear up with the Mountain Classic Sherpa-Lined Regular Down Coat. L.L. Bean took their trusted winter-ready design and added sherpa fleece lining to the hood and upper body for a cozy, insulated layer that doesn’t hold back. With a slightly fitted silhouette that falls to the knee, it offers extended coverage without sacrificing mobility or style.
The shell features a PFC/PFAS-free DWR for water resistance, and it’s packed with 650-fill DownTek down to keep us warm even in wet conditions. Sherpa fleece wraps the upper body in softness, while the taffeta-lined sleeves and lower body allow for smooth layering. Thoughtful extras like an insulated hood, two-way front zip, side vents, and secure patch pockets make this coat our winter essential for mountain towns, early morning commutes, or après-ski strolls.

Lovely Coat
I purchased this coat after seeing a girl at a New Years party wear it durring a deep freeze in New Hampshire this past winter. Unfortunately I purchased it in XS. I am 119lbs and 5'6" My waist is 26inches hips 36.5 and I wear a 32C bra. I was SWIMMING in the coat. It was so big that cold air would have easily come up from the bottom. I returned it and am now going for an XXS.

Great coat!
She loves this coat! She is always cold but between the sherpa lining, the down, the hood and the fact you can unzip the sides to sit, I haven't heard complaint one while she's wearing it.

Cozy warm and good looking too!
I bought this coat in kelp green, hoping for a comfortable coat that was truly a warm one. This one did not disappoint. It's great as a coat that's really warm in all the cold and wind that upstate New York can throw at us. The fleece lining stuck a bit to my other fleece (I wear all the fleece I can) but it got better after a short while. The coat length is excellent as well.

Warm and Snuggly
I love snow and hate cold. This coat manages a conundrum beautifully. Cozy but lightweight. Wonderful design for free stride, blocks wind, zips easily. Love it!

Warm and stylish
This is the perfect winter coat. So warm and I think it’s super flattering. I wear it around in temps between 0-40 and it’s very warm. Oversized perfectly to allow layering. 5’0, 100 lb, XS regular because petite was out of stock and it fits great

Nice and warm!
Love this coat! I live in southern CT and was in need of a new warm coat while walking the dog. I usually wear a medium but small was only in stock. So glad I got the small - definitely runs big and nice and warm so layers aren't needed underneath! The sherpa extends to the mid back from the hood and is so cozy and warm! The green is also a beautiful color - my step away from black to help me stand out while walking on roads. Great deep pockets in front and also hidden zippered on the side. Definitely recommend!

Warm and cozy
Great length and perfect for New England winter mornings with the dog. Very cozy. Would love if there were an inner pocket. The zipper appears to be holding up well after a month. At the sale price, it's a decent and warm coat of sufficient if not indestructible quality, and you feel like you are in a sleeping bag - in a good way!

Cozy "Michelin Man" coat
I bought my coat at an LL Bean outlet store at a deeply discounted price. That helped me overlook the color (a shade of green that gives olives everywhere a bad name), the hideous (but admittedly handy) patch pockets stitched on the front, and the fact that I strongly resemble the Michelin Man while wearing it. That said, the coat is extremely warm. The Sherpa lining in the hood and upper torso adds an extra layer of coziness, especially in strong winds. The zippered pleats on the side seams make big steps into high vehicles or over deep snowbanks much easier. The down filling is purportedly water resistant, but I haven't yet had the pleasure of wearing it in a sleet event. ( I think it would be much too warm for weather that supported rain.). It was the length that sold me on it. Although the picture on the Bean website shows it reaching a few inches above the model's knees, it reaches just below the knees on my 5'3" frame. It's just long enough to keep my legs warm in a cold wind but not long enough to collect ice-melt stains around the hem. As with any LL Bean product, it is very well made.
