Why We Like The Columbia Whirlibird V Interchange Jacket

Designed for seamless transitions between seasons and conditions, the Columbia Whirlibird V Interchange Jacket easily handles spring hikes, summer thunderstorms, and winter ski days. The 3-in-1 jacket features a waterproof Omni-Tech shell that can be worn by itself on rainy summer afternoons or combined with the insulated liner jacket for total warmth and protection as the snow starts to fall. The inner jacket features Thermarator synthetic insulation, and an Omni-Heat thermal reflective lining that traps our body heat for an extra layer of defense as we take the ski lift up to put down laps on our favorite runs. The thoughtful design comes equipped with a snap-away powder skirt and zippered underarm vents, truly making it the only jacket we need for year-round adventure.

Nice coat

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Quality construction. I’m 5’10” and 185 lbs. It feels great, but seems to run a little large.

Great , versatile jacket!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Got this jacket for my son who will be going off to college in the fall. Love the 3-in-1 features. The jacket is well made and fit as expected. Colors are true to what was on the site. Highly recommend.

not applicable

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I like everything about the outer and inner jacket with the exception of the shiny inner layer. I wish it was less visible (dull)

All Hype, No Heat: A Cold Letdown from Columbia

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] As someone who trusted Columbia for reliable winter gear, I was disappointed with the Whirlibird™ V Interchange Jacket during a recent trip to New York City. Despite layering appropriately, I still felt the cold seeping through, especially when the wind picked up. The thermal reflective lining and insulation just didn’t hold up in the kind of chill you expect this jacket to be built for. While the 3 in 1 Interchange system sounds great on paper (it can be worn as a shell, liner, or combined), the overall feel was bulky and awkward. The fit felt boxy and movement was restricted, which is surprising for something marketed toward active winter wear. The most unexpected letdown was the stitching and construction quality. For a Columbia product, I expected a level of durability that simply wasn’t there. Some of the seams looked sloppily done, and the overall finish felt like a step down from what the brand usually delivers. Sure, it has the bells and whistles: underarm vents, adjustable hood, decent pocket space. But none of that really matters if the core job of keeping you warm and feeling well protected isn’t handled. In short, this jacket looked good on paper but didn’t perform when it counted. If you’re expecting serious warmth and high quality construction, you might want to keep looking.
