Ghost 17 Wide Running Shoe offers cushioned comfort and a spacious fit for consistent road miles

What Our Gearhead® Experts Are Saying:

"I’ve always loved the Ghost for its smooth ride, and the wide version is a game-changer for all-day comfort. No pinching, no pressure points—just soft, balanced support and a roomy toe box that’s great for long runs or higher-volume feet."

With the Brooks Ghost 17 Wide Running Shoe, we get the same soft, consistent ride of the standard Ghost 17—now with extra room through the forefoot and midfoot for enhanced comfort and fit. This version is perfect for those who need more space without sacrificing structure, stability, or the plush cushioning Ghost is known for.

Updated with DNA LOFT v2 foam, the midsole delivers a smooth blend of softness and responsiveness, while added cushioning zones in the heel and forefoot ensure reliable comfort through every phase of your stride. The wide platform keeps things stable, and the engineered mesh upper made from 59% recycled content rounds out the ride with breathable, supportive coverage.

Here's what customers have to say

The running shoe is generally considered comfortable and well-cushioned, but some users have reported issues with durability, as the soles and treads wear out quickly. The fit and sizing also seem to vary compared to previous models, with some finding the heel collar too rigid or the cushioning too spongy. While the shoe has many positive reviews, there are also significant concerns about its long-term performance and fit.

Why such a difference in color between men and women?

I just want to know why the pretty bright colors can’t be in women sizes too?!?! Why do women only get the dull neutral colors? I love Brooks Adrenaline and Brooks Ghost but these colors on the new lines for women are not great and the colors for men are awesome! Come on Brooks and throw in some bright colors for us girls too!

Ghost 17

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have always liked Ghost. However, the heal doesn't feel as comfortable on the new Ghost 17. Everything else is great.

Awkward ankle opening

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The new ankle/heel was not designed for me. Longtime Brooks runner here. I have exclusively worn brooks, well over 30 pairs. They have always varied a bit model to model, but the new ankle and heel does not work for me. The opening is smaller, angles differently and offset awkwardly back. The heel is absurdly shallow and slips like crazy. My ankles now rub the eyelet area. Perhaps these were designed on a slender ankle with very flat heels. I am surprised that my favorite shoe changed so much, this will probably be the last Ghost.

Ghost 17

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love Brooks. They are the best shoe to wear with orthotics. The comfort level is amazing. The variety of color options is fun I wish lime green was offered for women.

Running on clouds

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] These shoes are beyond comfortable. I had Ghost 13, 14, 15, 16 and now these. I have a pair for work and a pair for everyday use. With two bad knees, the relief I feel from my Ghost is tremendous and I am able to jog much easier. I highly recommend.

First pair of the Ghost line.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is my first pair of the Ghost line. I went from a pair of Glycerin 21's because I needed a bit more firm feel. Just got the today and put 3 miles on them with no complaints. Nice taught feel. I really like the laces on the shoe, they have these grooves on them that seem to keep them in place more. Overall, very happy and would suggest to anyone looking for a good all around shoe. I use them for light running 3-5 miles and some incline on the treadmill as well. Also, I have a wide toe-box and these were comfy on my feet!

My go to trainer for many years

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Love my ghosts. I have 4 generations in my closet and the 17s are the best! Keep the new colors coming. I’ll be getting another pair soon!

walking on clouds

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Been a longtime Ghost user. My 15's were awesome! had 6 pairs. the 16's, not a big fan. Been waiting for the 17 and this first pair did not disappoint. They feel like floating on clouds! In the process of ordering more now. I wear the 2E and my only disappointment with Brooks is that the color options are not great in the Wide sizes.

My favorite shoe for several years now.

I love the Ghost line up and have purchased several pairs over the years. Light weight, durable uppers wrap my foot securely, feel great on my feet. Notice that the 17’s cushion is starting to creep up in thickness which I’m not a fan of. The soles also seem to be thinning out leading to quicker wear down of the tread…. I’d like to see the 18’s tread thinkness come up and the cushion decrease. Just my opinion. Right now the Ghost is my favorite shoe.

causes blood blisters - toe box issues?

The Brooks Ghost has been my go-to shoes for the past 8 years, and I was excited to purchase the 17s. However, I started running in the Ghost 17 about 1 month ago and they immediately caused blood blisters on the outside of my big toe knuckle ... despite a thorough break-in period. Unfortunately I no longer trust the Ghost and sadly will have to find a replacement for my daily shoe.
