Steel Stubbies vs. Aluminum & Diameter

Obviously these screws are known for being really light, Blue Ice's hallmark, which is a reality regardless because they're just stubbies. But the reason I use them is they're steel. And unlike the Blue Ice Aero light aluminum screws, steel can handle a rock strike better than an aluminum screw. And if there's one thing that's bound to happen with stubbies, you're going to be hitting a lot of rock. For super hardcore thin ice climbers, there's debate, though, about whether the wide diameter screws versus narrower stubbies, like the Camp Rockets are better. In essence, a larger diameter screw displace more of the limited ice when you're doing thin sections. So some crushers think that's disadvantageous. I own Camp Rockets as well. And even though these displace less ice, no matter what stubbies are more psychological protection than feasible pro. So no matter what, I just don't fall on them. One could do a test if you have both and fall on them and see, which works better in similar circumstances, but make sure there's thicker ice below that with the real screws in it, that'll catch you!
