Capitan Mips Helmet

Lightweight and durable

This thing feels solid and protective and is very light for all its features. I use one of those foam helmets for recreational climbing, but I use this for Search and Rescue and alpine climbing just to have a larger margin of safety.

I practice speleology, I have used several helmets in my life and this is most comfortable helmet I ever used

I bought this after rock fall destroyed a helmet and gave me a concussion. Luckily I haven't tested this one yet but it is thicker and warmer than other helmets, hopefully it protects your head better too!

This helmet saved me

I took a fall to the deck while trad climbing. Hit my head and got knocked unconscious. Thanks to the extra side and back protection, I hit my helmet on the rocks instead of the base of my skull. I was able to get up under my own power and rappel down to the ground with some basic assistance from fellow climbers. I had a concussion but it could have been much, much worse. I replaced it with the same one with this same one. Ill trade the extra weight and bulk for extra protection any day of the week.

I purchased this helmet August 2023 when it first came out on the market to replace my aging Petzl Ecrin. I used it climbing in all four corners of this country as well as Sicily and Greece. The helmet is black and it was hot in these locales but wearing the helmet was never oppressive but was warm. The helmet was never impacted in any manner, by a fall, by a rock hitting it, by dropping it or by something crushing it such as in an airline cargo bay. I always kept it with my carry on. Yet, within a year's time I began to find cracks in the yellow MIPS liner. The cracks grew longer until one or two of them stretched across the liner band. A total break. Has anyone else had this occur to their BD MIPS helmet? It took over a year of haggling to get a replacement from BD which I didn't receive until January 2025. They offered no comment as to their analysis of the cause of these cracks. A friend who bought this helmet before I did has had no problems. I hesitate to begin using this replacement.

I use this helmet for climbing and speedriding. The MIPS feature gives me that additional protection and piece of mind:-)

Nice Helmet

Comfortable light adjusts well will fit over a beanie. The clips and rear fixing for a head lamp are nice. i would purchase this a second time.

Super comfy and fits my big head

This helmet is super comfortable and fits my big head, even with a thin beanie on underneath. Haven't had to crash test it yet, hope I never have to!! Went with the MIPS technology, because why not? I use my head to make a living and I believe that if I ever do hit my head hard, it will be money well spen.

Best helmet to date

Worth the money to go with the mips version. As far as the capitan helmet it vents good and is fully adjustable as well as adjustments go in helmet when not in use. Took a few rocks on this last trip and helmet held up and did as advertised.

Comfort and safety

Wore my new helmet all day without having to fidget and adjust for comfort. Hardly knew I had it on. Also purchased this helmet for safety on the crag. Being on blood thinning medication I’m concerned about a possible head injury. I’m always conscious of safety but accidents do happen. Thanks for the added protection.
