Technical river footwear in the Loyak Water Shoe
What Our Gearhead® Experts Are Saying:
"These shoes handle everything from slippery put-ins to sharp river rocks. The Cordura upper dries fast, and that G.15 rubber sole grips like nothing else on wet granite."
Technical rivers demand footwear that bridges the gap between land and water, so we lace up the Astral Loyak Water Shoe when trails lead to put-ins and portages punctuate the flow. Stitched Cordura construction resists abrasion while G.15 rubber finds purchase on slippery surfaces, creating a shoe that excels whether we're scouting rapids or running them.

Extremely Good Water Shoe So Far
Bought these on a whim and based on an Instagram ad, which is always a risky proposition, after my 12 year old Keen sandals died. Tried two other brands of water shoe this summer, and tho I won't name names, these have them solidly beaten. I've used these for: Kayaking, sailing, fishing, and birding, including several long treks across big sand flats. I like minimalist shoes and these are super comfortable while still protecting my feet from rocks, shells, etc. The basically haven't dried out since the day after I got them. So far, they don't stink, although they also haven't been in the house yet. We'll see how that goes in October. Can't say anything about durability yet, obviously.

Simply amazing.
Mellow Alps alpine hikes. Felt like grippy protected barefoot. Simple and amazing. Recommend.

Look no further
Great shoes. Wore them every day on a 16-day rafting trip through the Grand Canyon. Soles provided plenty of grip in dry and wet environments. Upper still looks new. Cleaned up after got home and they are now my go-to shoes. I love the extra grip shoelaces. These are really well thought-out.

Good post hike shoes.
These were purchased as camp shoes for a 1 week backpacking trip because of their light weight. I simply shoved them into my pack on a circuit in Parque Nacional de Ordesa y Monte Perdido. Hiking boots get moist. These shoes gave my feet a chance to air in the evenings, even when they, my feet, and my socks were damp. I do not recommend hiking in them with a heavily loaded pack, the sole is grippy, but not rigid for boulder walking with mass. Nonetheless, it was our backup backpacking plan when my partner's soles fell off his boots. On top of this, they look sweet on my feet, I even had an Austrian hiker take a picture so he could buy himself a pair. Now I'm wearing them to parties and fall evenings at outdoor bars, because it makes me remember the mountains, and look a bit hip.

Theme Park Certified
Was looking for a “swim shoe” that would fit the criteria to keep on your feet during slides on a recent trip to Disney. After finding Astral, I thought these shoes looked great enough to wear in the parks with a risk of rain constant in Orlando. The texture of the insole, the grip of the sole, the comfort and breathability of the fabric all while putting in a half marathon in a day was amazing. Looking forward to many steps in these knowing the risk of wet feet for the rest of the trip will be limited thanks to how easy they are to dry overnight. Will highly recommend to anyone I know wanting a great looking casual shoe with a ton of functionality.

Out of the Box, Straight Into the Fire
These shoes got thrown into the ultimate test right out of the box. They came on a 2.5 week river rafting/camping trip down the Colorado river through the Grand Canyon, and were on my feet 90% of the daytime hours, and probably stayed wet for most of the time that they were being worn. Comfort and fast drying was great, but i rolled my ankle pretty badly on a rock (rock and shoe were dry at the time) that i slipped on because there wasn't as much traction as I was expecting. Overall great shoe, love this so much more for the water than Tevas or Chacos, and outside of the small traction issue no problems.

Good for a few
These shoes are great for a few years but then the grippy tread dries out hardens. They then have no grip and are slippery.

Well made shoe
The shoes seem well made but I wore them on a couple of mile beach walk and they gave me blisters in a couple of places. I washed them to see if i could soften them up. I really like them but have wimpy feet so it may take some time.

I'm looking for a good wet wader that will hold up while I'm fishing streams. Are these tough enough to handle hours in rocky bottomed water? How well do they keep gravel out, it gets old taking does of to dump rocks at every gravel bar.
